Purpose

The Intuitive-Analytical Judgment measure was designed to assess how individuals approach decision situations. It distinguishes between 2 decisions styles.
  • An intuitive style emphasizes using feelings over decision rules.
  • An analytical style emphasizes decision rules, calculations, and comparing pros and cons.
Questions

28 decision situations, each rated on 4 dimensions
  • Decision mode questions use 5-point ratings (0 = completely intuitively to 4 = completely analytically)
  • Risk & chance questions use 6-point ratings (0 = no risk/chance to 5 = very large risk/chance)
Sub-scales

4 dimensions:
  • Decision mode: analytical vs. intuitive
  • Risk of a negative outcome
  • Chance of a positive outcome
  • Extent to which outcome is under the control of the decision maker
