The Beattie award committee especially encourages students to apply and will give priority to applicants who have had an oral presentation accepted to the SJDM conference.
Applications will be accepted until Sep 15, end of day AoE. The JBMF Committee plans to make all award decisions by Sep 22. This year the committee anticipates making up to 10 awards of $750.
The required application form can be downloaded here. Submit applications via e-mail via attachments in .pdf (preferred), Word, or .rtf format to adelle.yang@utoronto.ca, with the subject "Beattie Application 2025".
Applicants should be scholars living and working outside the United States who will use the award to help pay for the costs of attending SJDM. It is anticipated that most awards will be granted to early-career faculty or advanced graduate students at colleges and universities, but others will also be considered.
Applicants should submit the application form, a copy of their curriculum vitae, and a one-page description of why they would be a good candidate for this award as well as the planned scholarly activities they anticipate to participate in at SJDM. If the applicant submitted a presentation to SJDM, they should include the title and short abstract of the presentation in this document.
If you are applying for the Beattie award, please do NOT register for the conference until after award decisions are made, because the award includes free conference registration.
Awards will be granted on the basis of the committee's estimate of the prospective value of the proposed activity, its relevance to the field of judgment and decision research, the scholarly credentials of the applicant, and the extent to which the award would contribute to the applicant’s success (including considerations of financial and academic need). Previous award winners are listed here. Questions can be directed to the committee chair at adelle.yang@utoronto.ca.
